Holter monitor - EKG (24 hour)

Often, when dizziness or syncope (fainting spells) occur, or if there is a suspicion of arrhythmia, the cause can be clarified by means of a long-term or 24-hour ECG.  

A long-term ECG (Holter Monitor) is a device for recording cardiac electrical activity, over a longer period of time. Electrodes are attached to the skin and connected to the recording device, a small portable box. Modern devices can record and store ECG signals up to 7 days in a row. 
 
 
From this stored data, the doctor can tell if dangerous arrhythmias are present and, as the case may be, whether the heart stops beating occasionally, or whether circulatory disturbances occur. The patient should ideally keep a diary or a protocol so that ECG events and irregularities perceived by the patient or physical activity can later be compared. Many devices are equipped with a feature which allows the patient to set a marker on the long-term ECG when a rhythm disturbance is felt. The patient is then able to mark a subjectively experienced unpleasant or threatening episode which the doctor can later examine more closely in the evaluation.
 
Evaluating the data from modern long-term ECG devices can also provide information about sleep apnea syndrome as well as phases in which there are circulatory disorders (ST-analysis). However, the main function is to analyze the heart rhythm. In combination with a long-term blood pressure measurement, valuable information can be gained if the primary symptom is dizziness.
